429859 2006-02-12 21:43:00 Gidday again! I recieved an error message yesterday "virtual memory low" and the PC has been running ****y for a while! I defragg the hard drive every couple of months, just wanted to know if you blokes used a program that addresses this issue. I have looked at a few like- Memokit and Memmonster, though I was apprehensive as a couple had been removed from download sites such as C-NET without explanation, can anyone recommend a program or ways to regain/optimise virtmemory or fix/control memory leaks?

Running XP Pro/256 ram/2.6 GHz

Thanks,

Boucher.

429860 2006-02-12 21:48:00 presuming you use xp well 256mb is minimal for running xp you'd be better off getting some more ram......also how much harddrive space you got left ?... drcspy (146)
429861 2006-02-12 21:49:00 any program like those you mentioned usually work by removeing apps from ram and place them into the virtual memory space so you got more usable ram.....however if you have low virtual memory in the first place then it aint gonna be much use......ram is cheap get some more...... drcspy (146)
429862 2006-02-12 21:50:00 most likly someone has "tweaked" your virtual memory and set it way to low. with XP it needs to be a least double ram size or the easy way is to simply let windows manage it. no fancy program needed, its all adjustable from the controlpanel/system/performance tab (i hope that direction is right, have a hunt in there for it). tweak'e (69)
429863 2006-02-12 21:55:00 that too

systrem/advanced/performance/settings/advanced/change......change it to say 850 mn and 850 max then clik set/apply/ok etc etc......

cheers!
