429440 2006-02-12 08:20:00 My old burner's snuffed it.
I know there was a review of some burners in a recent comp mag but I can't remember which mag & I can't find much info of any use thats not out of date on google

Which is best value for money, doesn't have to be the fastest at everything, but reliable's good

429441 2006-02-12 09:39:00 Asus 1608 came out tops in reviews a few months ago. I have one and have had no probs so far. And as an aside it can be flased with Pioneer firmware giving even more benefits such as automatic bitsetting.

My 2c.

429442 2006-02-12 09:51:00 APC magazine recommended Liteon 1693S last month... I bought one, so far so good :) Myth (110)
429443 2006-02-12 09:54:00 I've heard that Liteon is good for those that venture into the grey areas of legality. I never got round to testing my new liteon with copy protected games - I might post the results when I find a new game that is worth buying & isn't too demanding for my computer. Greven (91)
429444 2006-02-12 10:22:00 Avoid the Sony DRU800's. Theyre just a repacked model of the above Liteon bob_doe_nz (92)
429445 2006-02-12 19:43:00 Pioneer, I've sold heaps and never had any issues with media or copying copyright protected stuff(of course you need to know what program to use) Rob99 (151)
429446 2006-02-13 08:14:00 I never had any problem doing anything with the old gigabyte drive.
Are you trying to say the liteon unit is no good. I understood they made the same unit rebadged for a few brandnames.
So is the asus the best all round unit? (without spending silly money)

429447 2006-02-13 09:06:00 Really if you stay with Asus, Liteon, Pioneer you shouldnt have too may probs.

Keep away from Samsung - I have returned three in the last three months that stopped reading and/or writing (luckily all under warranty so they were replaced).
