429197 2006-02-11 01:29:00 OK my dad, in the morning did something with the fuse box and accidently shut down the power to my room. My computer was on when he did such a thing. The power to my room has been turned power back on, but when i went to turn on my computer this morning, I run into a message.

The message states that Windows didn't load properly due to some hardware change.

I have a few options such as, Load Windows normally. Load windows with the configuration when it last worked properly. Or Load Windows through safe boot. Load windows through safe boot with prompt.

And there is a time on the bottom...30 seconds or so to pick one of the options or else it picks the highlighted option.

I have tried all of the options and I keep running back to this message.

I went to the bios and loaded the optimum settings. But still nothing.

What exactly must I do?

Thanks guys.

429198 2006-02-11 01:55:00 Sounds like a or some windows system files got corrupted when the power was cut.
Have you got your Windows CD handy?
Boot off it and do a Reinstall of Windows.

429199 2006-02-11 07:52:00 This should work fine...

Load windows with the configuration when it last worked properly

If you do this make SURE you have a backup of your hard drive just in case you reformat it.

Is this the only option. I don't have a back up of my data, so I was hoping there is sometime of procedure that can minimize the amount of data I will lose.

How would an automated system recovery work?

Will I lose all of my information with this procedure?

429204 2006-02-12 18:04:00 Listen, maybe you don't have to lose everything:boot from the WinXP CD, press R to go to Repair/Recovery environment, and try the FIXMBR command. If it's still not working and a full format is the last step, save your files like this: Get a Live LINUX CD, access Windows, and copy your files to a disk or USB stick georgeks (9122)
429205 2006-02-12 18:45:00 ok I was going to proceed with the fixmbr command...but I then I got a caution message, that made me hesitant to proceed with the procedure.

It was something along the lines of corrupting your partition.

I am not sure how serious that would be...so I am trying to find the linux cd first and backing a few important things...

I am dling the SLAX version..

Is this version ok?

429206 2006-02-12 22:49:00 ok. I was able to load up Linux. But the problem is I have only one dvd drive. And it seems that I won't able to run the linux program without the cd being in that drive.

I back up some important documents through email attachements.

I can't run to the store and buy a usb port since we have about 2 feet of snow in NY at the moment.

Is there some way I can use a virtual drive to keep linux loaded and then pop in a dvd media to back up some of the other things?
