2006-02-10 08:54:00 | Need some help or suggestions here if anyone knows whats up, I am looking for a fix atm on the net but as of yet haven't found anything similar with a fix. I will start from the top. A few days ago I was playing WoW when all of a sudden my mouse started moving, clicking my buttons etc, by itself! First reaction is "Oh cripes, I have a hacker taking control of my PC!" because thats just what it looked like. Pulled the plug quick smart, disconnected myself from the network, rebooted while not on the network & ran latest AGV checker for any virus's or anything out of the ordinary. AGV found nothing, I keep it up to date & do regular scans anyway. Not happy with that I got hold of the 15 day trial of the full version Zone Alarm. Ran the virus/Trojan checker that came with that & it found nothing. Still not satisfied I plugged back in my net, went to http://www.pandasoftware.com/ & used their online virus checker. Again nothing was found, my system appeared clean. So a few days have now gone by with no problems, till tonight. BLING away goes my mouse again same as before. This time I disconnect the Network & Internet only to see the mouse continue it travelling around the screen. So I can only guess its not an outside source interfering with my mouse. Reboot computer to find its moving around on its own, net unplugged as soon as windows starts. Unable to get to the shutdown button due to it continuing to interrupt me getting to the shutdown box I hard reboot computer. Now here is where my 2nd & bigger problem came up. Boot up & get Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM So I pop in the XP disk & try to run the recovery as per instructions. But I cant. When it gets to the install part whatever option I select be it fresh install or recovery install I get that I can't run the recovery console or do an install as it tells me no hard drive is recognized ???? Any suggestions? As it stands I cant do anything. Running DFI LANParty NF2 Ultra B 2x Seagate 120GB 7200rpm Serial ATA Hard Drive in raid0 (I see them come up & clear when it boots)

But without being able to re-install windows I am kinda stuck. There is no important files on my system & I could do a complete fresh install off the bat....if only it would let me. |

2006-02-10 18:24:00 | DFI LANParty NF2 Ultra B....not the most reliable of mainboards.I'd say reset the bios to defaults by using the onboard jumper or by removing the Cmos battery for a while. Those DFI's are a bit tempremental. | cjongreen (7128) | |
2006-02-10 19:17:00 | Cool. Removing the Cmos bat did the trick & got me into my Bios, thanks cjongreen. Once in there I reset it to standard settings ( never changed any to start with but did a reset anyway) I noticed it fails to autodetect my hard drives, this I guess is what was causing the problems later on. Hmm wonder if its a MB or HD or Raid problem.

2006-02-10 19:32:00 | Did u put the hdd entries back on AUTO, after u cleared the BIOS? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2006-02-10 19:39:00 | If your talking about having the HDD detect setting in the Standard CMOS set to AUTO, then yes. Hit enter & it starts detect, finishes & comes up with no HDD settings in the list as if nothings there & no drives are connected. Have both set on raid0 at startup. Havent had any sounds or unusual things happen to the drives to think they may have failed. If one HD is faulty would this cause both problems in raid0 ?

2006-02-10 19:47:00 | I take it, both hdd's are the same brand / model / size for the RAID? Yup, if one hdd fails in RAID 0, the other will too . Well in Windows . Dunno if this is the case, when there's nothing on it . Thats the only thing with using RAID 0 . Have u configured the RAID in the BIOS? Enabled it? On most mobos u haveta install the SATA RAID drivers, before the actual install of Windows (by pressing F6 when u get to the install screen) . Have you got / installed the drivers? I would also make sure the data and power connections from the SATA's are in properly .

2006-02-10 20:36:00 | Yep both HDs are the same brand / model / size for the RAID Raid is enabled on the BIOS & prior to all this happening the RAID drivers had been installed & were working fine. Data & power connectors were the first to be checked & I even replaced them with new cables I had spare to make sure it wasnt them. I will see if I can re-install the raid drivers. Failing that I guess I try to somehow clear out the raid & try to install/power up one drive at a time non raid to see if I cant get that going. Man what a misson for just shutting down a computer LOL.

2006-02-10 21:08:00 | mmm...Yes well I did'nt know you were having trouble getting into the Bios.Trouble with a lot of the earlier DFI's and maybe even some of the new one's is they have a habit of losing Cmos settings so possibly having it set up in a raid configuration is'nt such a good idea with your particular board. There called an enthusiasts board and I believe the reason for that is the owner's are forever having to tinker with them to get them working properly..The Cmos reset is pretty much a cure all for most of those odd h/d trouble's where you don't know where or what happened to the drive's. | cjongreen (7128) | |
