| 430219 | 2006-02-14 02:56:00 | Pretty straight-forward. What type of drive do you already have installed? Is your CD/DVD drive on the same cable as your existing drive? Have you already bought a drive, and if so what type: SATA / IDE? |

| 430220 | 2006-02-14 04:13:00 | If your new drive is IDE (not sATA), then you may find this graphical guide helpful: Installing a Second IDE Hard Drive (compreviews.about.com) You may not have a removable drive cage (as shown in that guide), in which case just slide the new drive into the drive rack and attach the screws. Make sure you do not put the new drive smack against the other drive, but skip a bay so that you will maintain good airflow between the drives. Also check the lenght of your power and IDE ribbon cables before firmly attaching the new drive to make sure they will reach. Double check your jumper position as well to ensure it is set to slave. Once the drive is installed and detected by the BIOS, then you can use XP's Disk Management to initialise, partition and format the new drive. Until it is formatted it will not appear listed under "My Computer". |
