430032 2006-02-13 16:25:00 Hey guys!

My laptop just turned itself off for the second time.

Last night it did: it went "poof" (like i pressed the power button), and i turned it back on, it got a blue scandisk screen... then started up ok.
Today it did the same thing, except no scandisk when i turned it back on!
It seems like it turned itself off for no reason... I did a virus scan, Spybot and Adaware, and found nothing wrong with comp! so i am wondering... Why on earth is it turning itself off for no appearent reason??? i went to touch the mousepad and it went "poof"!

Any ideas? :help:

430033 2006-02-13 18:51:00 Was this running off battery or mains? Have you made sure the power lead is firmly in place? Basic questions but a good place to start with. :) Jen (38)
430034 2006-02-13 21:01:00 Have you done anything to the comp recently that could have brought about this change? (Thoiugh I can't imagine what apart from setting it to power off.) Any new hardware, any new software recetly installed? Ever done this before? What sort of laptop is it with what OS? mark c (247)
430035 2006-02-13 22:07:00 Hi, thanks for your replies
-it's not the battery it was on AC, and the battery was still full (90%+)
-it's an acer aspire 2023 WLMi Windows XP home edition (service pack 1) (had probs with service pack 2 and windows updates, so don't tell me to install SP2 or do the windows updates, it's a big no-no)
-I installed qumana more than a week ago and it didnt do it. then yesterday and today it started doing it.
-other than that i did nothing special, so idk what happened.... been fine for several months and all of a sudden it's turning itself off.....

430036 2006-02-13 22:22:00 Could be heat related. There are coolers built for laptops, but I've never used one. kingdragonfly (309)
