430010 2006-02-13 13:25:00 my computer randomly restarts, usually when im doing more than one "heavy" thing on the computer, e.g. burning and using SonicStage etc etc. I have googled it and changed my computer settings so that i get the BSOD before the computer restarts and get the following message when it restarts:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA

***STOP: 0x00000050 (0xA079668B10x 0x00000000, 0x804R30DA 0x00000000)

After i have sent the error report when my computer restarts i am taken to a microsoft internet site telling me that i have experienced an unknown driver error. What's wrong with my computer?

430011 2006-02-13 18:55:00 What have you installed? It can be a faulty driver.
Try a system restore back a few days to before the problem started.

430012 2006-02-13 19:29:00 i havent installed anything recently, it has been an ongoing problem but it has recently got worse. sometimes, when i send an error report, i am told that the problem is to do with the driver for my modem, but i havent changed this since my internet has been installed and it has worked fine until recently ChunkyMunky (9717)

430014 2006-02-13 20:14:00 It could be an indication of bad physical memory...

run memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com) and see if any errors turn up.

430015 2006-02-13 20:28:00 actually, i have just installed a new CD/DVD drive, and it does only seem to crash when im burning/ripping, so could this be the problem? i have tried updating driver but it says that the current driver is the best one. will try memtest asap

now firefox doesnt work.. :S not responding every time i open it :badpc:

430016 2006-02-13 20:32:00 What version of Windows is installed, and how much ram is in the system?

I would also check whether the cd's/hard drives are in DMA not PIO mode.

What other IDE devices are inside the case?

And what else is on the same IDE connection as the cd/s you just installed?

Are the CD/DVD's by themselves on the IDE connection?

430017 2006-02-13 22:26:00 The burning process could be more memory intensive than other ordinary tasks.

As previously mentioned by other posters, my suspicions would be
* bad memory
* a rootkit

At least it's easy to check the memory:

430018 2006-02-14 11:24:00 i have run the memtest and left it over night. It ran 15 checks (I guess it ran again once it had finished) and found no errors. How can i find out if it is a rootkit. I have been on the link suggested earlier which is a microsoft help site about a piece of malware but i couldnt find the file to delete which it said to do so i guess i havent got it. Any ideas why firefox now won't work? ChunkyMunky (9717)
430019 2006-02-14 12:03:00 ChunkyMunkey get this program and run the benchmark tests to see how your computer is running, EVEREST Home Edition 2.20:

www.aplusfreeware.com

It will give you a lot of info about your computer and allow you to familiarise with the components etc of which it comprises.

When you get it running, go to Computer/Summary and right click the summary window and copy all, paste into your text editor and post the result here please.
