1397352 2015-03-26 03:26:00 Hi all, I live in an area were I can only get adsl 1, the modem I have had for many years seems to get hot easy, I just want to know if an adsl 2 modem would work in my area, as it seems hard to find a adsl 1 modem.
thanks

1397353 2015-03-26 03:36:00 Should do, they are in theory backwards compatible. I say should though because some chipsets don't work well with some of the ISP end equipment and when cabinets are upgraded it's fairly common for some customers to have to replace their modem. If you happened to be near Hamilton and wanted an old Dlink to try I'd give it away. Been sitting in a cupboard for a few years now but as far as I know it still works. There's a possibilty I may still have one of the original Nokia ADSL1 modems floating about as well.

Unless it's actually playing up though I wouldn't worry about it, like the old adage "if it ain't broke, .... " On the other hand after losing several modem/routers in a short period of time I made a cooler for mine from a 12V supply and an old case fan and it runs a LOT cooler, you could achieve the same thing by using a cheap laptop cooler I suppose although it's a little bulky.

many thanks and have a great weekend.

1397355 2015-03-26 07:17:00 What area are you in Leslie? Ask them when they plan to upgrade, as you may save yourself some money by getting an ADSL 2+ if they have it planned in the near future.

ADSL 2/2+ is backwards compatible. I too have a few ADSL 1 modems, stored hidden deep in the mix of my parts junk yard.

Also check local op shops, was at one before and was amazed at the ancient electronics they had, all priced below $4.

Cheers,
