I manage phone systems and do VoIP support / consulting for a living, so yeah it's a good thing I have an intimate knowledge of them coz I setup that kind of thing for some NZ-based businesses ;-)

1385957 2014-10-13 02:46:00 I did get rid of my landline, I now have a package for my cellphone and VDSL with more free minutes/txt/data than I use and the same cap as before for about the same price I was paying with a landline. I save a bit by not having a prepay on top of that though and wow is it peaceful at home these days. There are only about 3-4 people who ever rang my home phone and even then a lot less than all the unwanted calls I got.

because I'm with spark the landline is still connected and gets dial tone but it can only be used for emergency calls and they recommend you don't rely on it as your only option in an emergency.

I have been considering setting up a low powered PC or laptop as an always on skype machine and giving out my details to friends and family so they can make free calls if they want, but I probably don't get rung enough to worry about it.

1385958 2014-10-13 02:57:00 This OT, but still...

One of the things that stops me losing the landline is that everybody who needs to call me knows my landline number, and it is also stored on various online sites etc. Also if I stop the landline it is going to cost callers to call me, which is OK for the unwanted ones, but not for the nearest and dearest.

1385959 2014-10-13 03:50:00 My family are all overseas so I have to keep my landline for a while longer although I don't use it to call them I use Voipcheap (recommended by someone on here whose name escapes) $17 credit gives me almost unlimited calling to England for 6 months. 3 months free then another 3 months to use up my credit and the call clarity is great as well. gary67 (56)
1385960 2014-10-13 04:29:00 I luuuuurve playing them at my g/f's place. Sadly never got to the end of their scam calls cos clearly the supervisor cuts the call when he figures out I'm onto the shizza.

One must assume you don't like playing with them when you are at home.
