| 1398063 | 2015-04-05 09:34:00 | Pricespy is showing a new internal drive from Seagate. 8TB in the usual 3.5 inch form factor. Uses Shingled Magnetic Recording, which still has to prove itself in the real world. Priced very competitively at 5 cents per GB, same as all the better value $/GB options in the 1-4TB range. No sign of WD having a matching product yet. I suspect heat may be a weak point for these, as they specify 60 degrees C as the peak temp for the enclosure. In a small, realtively closed external enclosure they'd potentially go over this during summer - which might be a reason they're not in external enclosures yet, and marketed as for Cloud storage oprations. |

The Elements version is about $150 - so 4 of them is $600. (Admittedly a lot more than the Seagate 8TB at $400) The 2TB portables have the advantage of not requiring an external power supply. Also, the size of 4 of them is not much more than a 3.5" |
