1478950 2021-07-28 21:24:00 We get 5 or 6 years typically. Is this normal?

Asus purchased 2006 died 2010
Toshiba purchased 2010 died 2016
Asus purchased 2016 died 2021

My laptop is on all day everyday?

1478951 2021-07-28 21:35:00 My brother only bought second hand. His last we sold, it was a horrible thing, he bought another second hand one this year.

Got Granddaughter a second hand one ages ago....via a shop....she still has it. Been 4 years or so? How old it was before, don't know.
What died exactly? If motherboard well, yes....

The motherboard in my PC is now 11 years old, ASUS, Haven't even had to replace battery yet.

1478952 2021-07-28 22:16:00 Until they get to the point that they can't be used any longer . Wife's HP laptop is now 6 years old and since putting in a SSD is like a new PC. Mine is only 2 years old. Both say that they can't have win 11 installed. paulw (1826)
1478953 2021-07-28 22:25:00 The work laptops are around 5+ years old when we get them.
My home laptop was around 5 years old at a guess when I bought it

As above, put SSD's in them & they run pretty good. Batts start to get iffy as the age though .
Some old laptops with AMD/NVIDIA graphics chips where more prone to issues as the aged (heat related issues I guess)

laptops that are XP get binned . Older laptops not at least i3,i5 get binned .

1478955 2021-07-29 19:21:00 Both of ours are 4 years old. I know that as bought both when we moved down here gary67 (56)
1478956 2021-08-01 23:23:00 SWMBO uses my first Dell Vostro bought in 2008, with XP installed. It has never had a problem, and with a SSD installed, with Linux Mint it runs like a new one. mzee (3324)
1478957 2021-08-02 00:01:00 My current one is a refurbished Dell E6530 I've had for Just over 4 years. The battery is pretty much stuffed, and it's got a bit slower as the 8GB ram struggles to deal with todays app requirements, but I can still use it to work remotely fine, and play games like Diablo2, Grim Dawn and Path of exile on low settings. Probably got another 2 years in it the_bogan (9949)
1478958 2021-08-02 00:18:00 My old laptop starting having stuck key issues this weekend, making it unusable . Unfortunately I had recently given away my spare older (XP ) notebook .
So got a screwdriver, prised off the right control key : now usable again. :)
Just as well, as it wasnt worth buying & installing a new kb for it
