Plug it in, if you killed the motherboard then not much will happen in the way of booting or bios info, the PSU will go....

Or buy one of those little gadgets

Thanks for the link Piroska. Unfortunately there is a big "SOLD OUT" stamp on the web page.
I did put the spare PSU into the iffy PC case and connected the 4-pin ATX 12V plug and the multi-pin EATXPWR plug on the iffy mobo. I switched on the power and got the green LED light on the mobo, but nothing else happened.
