431361 2006-02-16 14:28:00 i have recently bought a plug and play hard drive, but i cannot put any data on it as i get the error message:

"Cannot find specified file"

My computer is FAT32 and the HDD is NFTS, does this make a difference?
I can put some single files on it, but when i try to delete them i get the same error message, whats happening?

431362 2006-02-16 22:22:00 What operating system are you using?

Windows 2000 and Windows XP can read both NTFS and FAT32, Windows ME or earlier will not.
Have you formatted the external drive?

431364 2006-02-19 12:46:00 could the problem be the BIOS? i havent updated it since i bought the computer, so should i update it? ChunkyMunky (9717)
431365 2006-02-19 22:59:00 Updating the BIOS is not without risk so should only be done as a very last resort and even then only if upgrading is known to fix a certain issue.

How did you try formatting your external drive? Does it show up in Disk Management when it is plugged in?

431366 2006-02-19 23:58:00 Have you checked for known issues on the manufactures web site, 1st rule of thumb.

2nd, if you want our assistance, please list the device in question at least!
