430821 2006-02-16 04:49:00 :help: I need advice on how to go on about getting my Windows ME to Windows XP Professional. I want to completely re-install everything. How do I go along doing this, how do I fully clean the hard drive etc? All suggestions and help are appreciated. :) zahmad (8963)

I beieve it's a pretty descent machine to run windows xp professional as it was one of the first models to run windows xp :D! I will have to find the specs. In the mean time, the advice will be appreciated.

430826 2006-02-16 05:18:00 Well if u have the full version of XP, just go into the BIOS, change the bootdisk to cd, chuck the cd in, save the BIOS settings and reboot.

And then it'll take u to the XP setup screen. Then partition / format / install XP.

And wait for it to finish.

430827 2006-02-16 05:42:00 You may want to write down or take a screenshot and print the device list on the pc at present just in case you have some fun with XP original edition CD not recognising some of the components like modem, sound card, graphic's etc SolMiester (139)
430828 2006-02-16 06:51:00 i would download all the XP drivers and save them to cd before formatting. tweak'e (69)

Find out what brand/model the mobo is, for this PC you want to upgrade.

Go to the mobo site and download the sound/lan/and maybe mobo drivers, if u havent got the motherboard cd. And also the modem drivers, (from the site, whatever brand/model the modem is), if this PC has a modem.

XP may not install the drivers for it.

XP will load most drivers, except the lan/network, soundcard, modem, and the inf mobo drivers for the motherboard.
