430831 2006-02-17 03:20:00 Thanks. I was wondering, if something goes wrong, can I use the system restore cd that came with my computer to revert it back to Windows ME? zahmad (8963)

430833 2006-02-17 03:40:00 I beieve it's a pretty descent machine to run windows xp professional as it was one of the first models to run windows xp :D! I will have to find the specs. In the mean time, the advice will be appreciated.
If the above is true, how did it end up with ME on it?

It is the Compaq Presario 7100AN. It had Windows ME installed in it when it was sold. At that time, Windows XP was on the urge to be released, and I got a voucher, explaining that after it is released, you can go get it for free from your dealer. Unfortunately, I had not known about this, and the voucher expired :(. Anyway, I recently bought an Windows XP Professional cd as I got it for a discount, and thought to buy it to get that pc working better, as with Windows ME, it keeps on crashing in startup now and then. You all know how crap Windows ME is.

Anyway, sorry for the long explanation, but ya, that's the story :D.

430835 2006-02-17 04:41:00 You'll find all the XP drivers fro this model here
h10025.www1.hp.com
Avoid the video drivers and get them from nvidia after you have installed
XP will install generic drivers for most nvidia
