| 431172 | 2006-02-16 08:37:00 | We have purchased a new PC which has a CD Reader Writer, but no floppy drive. Our old PC has a floppy drive and a CD Reader. The new PC uses Windows XP Home, and the old PC has Windows 98. We have also purchased an Iomega External hard drive which can be used with Windows 2000/XP/2003. We need to transfer files to the new PC. Can anyone help? Thanks |

| 431176 | 2006-02-16 23:27:00 | Turn the new PC off . You have to open the new pc up, and connect the old hdd to the main hdd, via its IDE cable . Make sure u jumper the old hdd (on the back of it), to slave . And configure Primary SLAVE to AUTO, in the BIOS . So XP will see the hdd . After u reboot . Either that, or network the 2 PC's via an ethernet network . It depends what kind of files you're talking bout . And how big they are . If theyre programs that have already been installed on the 98 PC . Forget trying to copy the program files across . Reinstall the program on XP . Or if the files arent that big, if both PC's have USB, buy a USB key, and copy the files from the 98 PC to the XP PC . |
