2006-02-16 05:19:00 | ah hell. just my luck. i decided last night to resize and delete some partitions. on my 60gig i have a 2 16gig partitions and a 23gig partition. windows, 'stuff' and music, respectivly. now i toss in the knoppix 4.0.2 dvd disc and the boot is fast, i mean cd was slow and messy, dvd is great (to ram doesnt work, i guess thats a sign to move from 1gig to 4gig). i get into qtparted and go into the 60gig, i delete hda2 and commit. i reboot the system and its like ERROR. netnovel? boot thing? basicly it tells me theres nothign to boot to. i go back into knoppix, the idea that ive deleted windows flashes though my mind, but windows is still there. i set hda5 (somethign abuot a logical partition on an extended partition, which doesnt sound right) as active and then reboot. Again nothing happens. so back to knoppix i go. i set hda2 to active (which is the extended partition inwhich hda5 is located). again nothing. btw, hda1 is abuot 7MB and is blank (no clue) hda3 was 'stuff' and hda4 is music. ok i have no qualms with reinstalling windows, but id like to have a shot at fixing it (which makes this problem much more of a problem) next i stuck in my winxp Pro cd booted fine, asked me what to do (install, recovery, nothing) and i loaded up the recovery console. somehow windows has moved from C: to E: which is odd, but not impossibly to get around. i type in the admin password and BOOM! bsod! PFN_LIST_CORRUPT ***STOP 0x0000004e (0x0000008f,0x0000a211,0x0000a219x0,00000000) i reboot and then it loads for the disc again, and i get distracted. abuot 5min later i see it so i hit r and BSOD! somethign abuot the irq_not_equal_to thingy.... uh, this sounds like im screwed. should i bother with fixing it or should i give reinstalling windows a go?

2006-02-16 05:28:00 | When you change partitions you are expected to know what you are doing . :groan: hda5 will certainly be a logical partition in an extended partition . I don't think Windows will boot in a logical . Linux usually can, as long as the boot manager is in a primary . The extended partition is just a container for the logical ones it holds . I don't think anything can boot to one . Windows likes primary partitions . hda2 is your extended partition, it seems . You started by deleting that? I don't know what your disk looks like now . It seems that Windows has the same problem . :help:

2006-02-17 03:10:00 | Uh... Is it like bad... if windows like... blue screens like... during install?

2006-02-17 03:31:00 | Yes. You have messed about with the partition table, with a non-Windows partitioner. That might be a bad thing. My strong preference is to let an OS make any partitions it is going to use. (That is, give it an area which is "not allocated").

2006-02-17 04:09:00 | Can you see your windows (based) data with Knoppix? If you can, you can at least retieve your user files, before you repartition in prep for a fresh install. | Murray P (44) | |
