I recently bought an LG DVD burner and thought I'd try playing a video DVD that won't play in my regular player. It started OK (kinda condemns the old Lennox player) but the sound and vision are both choppy. I'm using the DVD player software that came with the drive BTW.

I had expected that might happen, because the computer is a PIII 550 with 512MB Ram and has an Intel 440BX motherboard with integrated sound & video, but then the DVD player hasn't got much guts either so perhaps there is something I can do about this in the interim. I'd like to be able to run a DVD if I can.

Is the key limitation the computer, or is there some other settings aspect I could look at? I'm not going to even think about upgrading this old box as I am going to build a new jobbie around mid-year.

Cheers

432374 2006-02-20 03:25:00 Even with VLC you'll be struggling . :( I've tried it on a 700 MHz P3, though you've got more memory . It was hopeless under Windows 2K, just viewable in Linux .

The DVD drive isn't a problem . If it can handle "1X" it's fast enough .

432376 2006-02-20 03:41:00 it should still run ok on those specs. i've had it run fine on a 300mhz before.

is DMA enabled?
a lot of 440BX boards are ata33 only so it may be hardrive related.
whats the cd/dvd cache set at ?
what OS ?
dvd drive on a seperate ide channel to the hard drive?
what video card do you have?
