| 432324 | 2006-02-20 01:16:00 | hi everyone, just recently got adsl from ihug with the D Link G604T wireless router, and ive got the LAN going smoothly, but what has stumped me is the wireless network aspect. I purchased a Cameo WLG-1201 PCI 11g 54Mbps card for my desktop computer and ive installed it and setup the Access point for the router from the D Link router web page and ive got the SSID setup as VK_Family and also enabled WEP at 128 bit encryption and set the WEP key to Shared Key. Now here are the problems: Firstly, the desktop can pick up the signal from the router and its got Excellant Signal Strength and I can connect, but once i connect to my family network i cant do anything, it says Limited Connectivity or No Connection, and I am unable to do anything that requires web access. I have tried disabling the WEP for my network and i was still unable to do anything related to internet. Ive researched the net and found some sites referring to the DHCP or something to that effect which states that i get this problem if my ethernet wireless card has the IP or subnet out of range of the router. I am totally lost on that DHCP issue and any help which could rectify this issue would be much appreciated. Cheers, v.K |

It's not a cure-all, but on occasion it makes life easier, certainly from a support perspective. It could be an incompatiblity with Cameo and Dlink, or not. Generally bad IP settings will prevent you seeing the network properly, like not cruising the Internet, but I wouldn't think you'd see anything regarding the signal strength. |

Cheers, v . K Op, you have already answered this yourself . . . If your wireless card IP (internet Protocol) address is IN a different subnet (different suburb say!) to that of your router, then your PC will not be able to talk to the router hence no internet . Routers usually send IP addresses to clients (your pc attached to router), and most of the time are setup to do this automatically . I have noticed that a number of D Link routers' DHCP server setting sometimes fall asleep, (especially those sent out as free modems . Usually rebooting (switch off 10 sec, switch on) restarts the DHCP service if enabled . If that works, you know what the cause is, perhaps there is a flash on the D Link web site to fix this . But 1st, check as per the other posters to see if the wireless card is setup for DHCP or has set address and that the router has the DHCP server sevice enabled . |
