2006-02-19 21:40:00 | I'm fiddling with some friends' comp and in Device Manager there's a conflict under 'other device - ethernet'. I guess the now-homePC was once networked. I've tried re-nstalling the driver from Win98 but no improvement "no beter driver found" and I think the best solution is to physically remove the card and then the driver and any other trace. Is this the right procedure? I'm not very familiar with having my hands under the hood and just wanted confirmation so if it goes wrong I can blame someone else. Ha, no, just kidding. I think I'm on the right track but thought I'd ask first.

2006-02-19 22:06:00 | Sppedy G. I'm assuming it's a card, that can be removed. Haven't got Everest or any other program like that to have a look. I'm suprised you say it can't be removed. I though that was the point of PCI cards Whip 'em out, whip 'em in and Plug and Pray. I want to get rid of it, not make it work. gibler. Under 'decive manager' doesn't say anything about what sort of conflict. Just 'Code 28. Driver is not installed.' When I go to reload the driver I get "no be driver found.' and then 'unknown device'. I'd just like to get rid of it. Next stop for this machine is the tip rather than back to an office and a LAN.

2006-02-19 22:32:00 | Thanks Speedy. I'll take this machine home (after digging it out from under the phone books) and have a go at removing it. | mark c (247) | |
2006-02-19 23:19:00 | Or, in Device Manager, just 'disable in this hardware profile', that means the device and drivers are effectively removed, and which should hopefully remove the conflict. | Terry Porritt (14) | |
2006-02-19 23:34:00 | Thanks Terry P I did that and now shows a red blob over the yellow question mark and 'properties' says it's disabled. As you say 'hopefully' this removes a conflict though the 'other devices' that the ethernet device is under still shows with yellow ?. See how it goes, cheers....mark c

2006-02-19 23:41:00 | If it says the driver isnt installed, it doesnt mean its conflicting . It's telling u to install the drivers, so it works . When u said u tried reloading the driver, was it the driver for the NIC? Not from the 98 CD? Which probably doesnt have the driver to install . As I said if the NIC is onboard disable it altogether in the BIOS . If you dont want to use it, or install the drivers for it, if u want to use it .

2006-02-20 00:12:00 | If it says the driver isnt installed, it doesnt mean its conflicting . It's telling u to install the drivers, so it works . OK thanks I get that . I forgot an exclamation mark is a conflict anyway, and ? is a query . When u said u tried reloading the driver, was it the driver for the NIC? Not from the 98 CD? No wasn't from the CD, the 'store' of drivers on the HDD I supposed . As I said if the NIC is onboard disable it altogether in the BIOS . If you dont want to use it, or install the drivers for it, if u want to use it . I will have a look in the BIOS too thanks . Have to get this machine home and open it up . Cheers . :) (LOL, not to look at the BIOS I mean, but if there's a card . :D)
