431945 2006-02-19 02:36:00 I've bought a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse setup, which I've installed on my XP Home PC. Generally it works, but sometimes the mouse pointer does its own thing with regards to where it goes (jumps about). The keyboard occasionally decides to not recognise a keystroke, or decides to repeat a keystroke 10 times.
I've done the troubleshooter, tried the receiver in different positions, batteries, etc. There is lots and lots on the web from people with similar problems, but the fixes I have tried make no difference. The one I haven't done is to go into the registery and delete all references to other mouse/pointing devices and reinstall the wireless software.
Has anyone else tried this with any luck?
Graham.

431946 2006-02-19 04:15:00 it's possible that some other hardware is conflicting with the mouse/keyboard or using the same 'ports'.

You could try going into control panel> system> hardware> device manager and see if there are any question marks.

Also could try control panel> keyboard> click on hardware tab > troubleshoot.

431947 2006-02-19 04:31:00 Hi,
I've been through the troubleshooters and all the checks I make come up with "Device working properly". I've turned off the precision pointer option and slowed the speed of the mouse down, which may have helped (a little), but still have the mouse pointer do its own thing across the page when I'm wanting to point to something else.
My son says to get over it, but wait till he tries an online race and finds he has no throttle or steering sometimes!!
This erratic behaviour happens on line or off line.

431948 2006-02-19 04:36:00 Oh yes, I've tried using the PS2 ports rather than USB, but that makes no difference either.

M just hung for ab3 seconds then whe clicking post rel

That line is an actual result of trying to type something sensible! okay again now!!

431949 2006-02-19 07:13:00 With the mouse - have you tried a different surface? Some desks and mouse pads can cause that.
As for the keyboard, if your setup isn't the problem, send it back and get a new one.,

431950 2006-02-19 07:25:00 Yep, tried different mouse pads/no mouse pad.
I may have to try the registry clean out of any other mouse drivers, but am just looking for easier options first (although I know playing with the registry isn't that hard - and I do have Go Back if it turns bad).

431951 2006-02-19 07:41:00 Hi there

What model keyboard/mouse set is it?
I have used 3 different wireless mouse/keyboard sets from Microsoft -- 2 have been great and the other 1 wasn't -- the Optical Desktop 1000 from memory was it's offical title.
Try having at least 30cm distance between the IR receiver and the keyboard/mouse -- that's what worked best for me.

I threw them all out months ago. Sometimes they worked , more often they didn't. :badpc:
