431910 2006-02-18 20:39:00 Hi all,
My dad is looking to buy a new laptop for some business work. He needs a machine atleast with 1.5GHz, 512 DDR ram, not worried much about video card. Just wondering if its possible to get a 160gig Hard drive installed in a laptop(NOT EXTERNAL USB HDD) ? or can we fit 2 80GIG hard drives in a laptop.
Price to spend around $2000 or less. (if possible :)

I just want to know which are good brands of laptops around?

For example,
Ausu, Toshiba, Dell, Acer and so on. I know celeron chip PC were not very good while ago and is it the same situation with laptops as well now?

431911 2006-02-18 21:46:00 Toshiba have been rated the top or nearly the top laptop brand for many years now.
however it also comes down to price and features that you need.

431912 2006-02-18 21:51:00 Most laptops have a videocard, since it'll be hard to change it.

I doubt you'll get 2 hdds in a laptop, unless its the size of a suitcase.

The latest netguide says the Toshiba M70 is a good notebook. (about $1600)
But the graphics card isnt that great either. And pretty heavy.

Intel Celeron 380 1.6 ghz, 512mb ram, 40 gb hdd, 15.4 display dual layer burner, WI-FI. There are others but the Toshiba is the only one with 512mb.

The others have 256, except the Dell Inspiron 1300, but the wireless on it is poor/weak.

Or an ASUS notebook (dse.resultspage.com 787&site=&w=asus+notebook&submit.x=0&submit.y=0)

431915 2006-02-19 04:44:00 A big glossy Toshiba brochure fell out when I opened my Sunday Star-Times today.

It has their newest models, though no prices, I note.

Very pretty, yet a once-over-lightly on the technical details, it seems. But what do I know?
(From the woman who's just rescued it from her paper rubbish recycle bag, where she tosses stuff she doesn't plan to buy)

Ask a Toshiba dealer for one or steal the brochure from your dairy's newspapers.

431916 2006-02-19 08:32:00 Now I've taken the latest junk mail from my letterbox, I see Harvey Norman has a page with 8 priced Toshiba notebooks from $1199 to $3999 .

Those in the SS-T's glossy brochure were all "Centrino Duo" with dual core processing .

The HN selection includes 6 models described as "new," but don't skite about Centrino Duo, so are presumably a different selection .

431919 2006-02-19 23:41:00 Groovy, Centrino is the architecture of the board, can have a pentium M or Celeron M cpu.
If you can afford it, the Centrino Duo would be a real smooth quick system!
