| 433095 | 2006-02-22 23:31:00 | Please, can someone help. Under Win98se, the find via start, find [for files and folders etc] no longer opens. There now appears a small white square in the upper right corner of find that wasn't there before. Right clicking C: in windows explorer still brings up a find that will open. Thanks | travels01 (9857) | ||

You could try the system file checker in system info, but I think that will only find changes since last time it checked, which was probably when you installed 98SE originally - so it probably won't help as installing some programs changes this. You could also try restoring an earlier version of the registry (from before you noticed the dodgey find problem), this has worked for me for some problems. Best thing to do is a full reinstall - clean format of HDD. Once crappy things like that start happening I don't trust the system, and it's always nice to have a fresh install. Needless to say, make sure you back up fully and have got all necessary drivers. Cheers, J |
