432607 2006-02-21 19:17:00 I have posted on this vexing topic before but here is another one :)

I bought a 1gig myflash usb stick and found that in moving data it would disconnect from the computer .

You get that anoying 'ding dong' sound and then a message about the file being unable to be moved as the device had gone . Windows then finds it again and it loads that 'Removable disk' window with the options to play, open etc .

This happened with the first 1gig stick I got so I returned it thinking it broken, the replacement stick is doing the same now as well .

The spontanious disconnects seem to happen when under load, moving a large program, folder etc . Short quck moves don't seem to affect it . So I am reduced to moving sub folders singularly instead of just moving entire main folders .

It happens on all sorts of machines, mine has XPSP2 and all updates, another XP SP1 etc .

Is it a bad brand? I have scoured the net looking for an answer as its sometimes almost unusable but no one else seems to have the same issues . I loaded the drivers for the stick and tried every fix I could find . nothing seems to work with it .

Any help gratefully recieved .

432609 2006-02-21 20:01:00 Are you saying the same stick has issues with different pc's?. If so, there is your answer!.

Not all USB stick are as good as others! Is it a DSE

432610 2006-02-21 22:05:00 If it's a dse stick, I've had 3 replacements before I got one that works as it should and I'm not holding out much hope that it will last long either
Rundisk are just as bad as well

432611 2006-02-21 22:19:00 Its called myflash this one -- . adata . com . tw/en/products-f-usb-pd2 . htm" target="_blank">www . adata . com . tw
After the trouble I went through in trying to get the other one replaced, I really can't take this back as well . I'm not that combative . . . .

It spontaniously disconnects either using the cable, (which is my usual method) and without, and in any usb slot .

sigh . . . can anyone recommend a drive that DOES work properly .

432612 2006-02-22 01:25:00 Yes, the Transcend 110 Jet Flash Drive. Some months ago I had similar problems with MyFlash, and others. Someone on this forum recommended the Transcend drives. I checked the reviews on Tomshardware.com, which rated it very highly.

It comes in 128, 256, 512, & 1GB capacities. I got the 1GB drive from Ascent, and it has been very satisfactory. Never misses. Works fine on both XP & Win98se PC's I have.

432613 2006-02-22 02:45:00 I've had trouble with Transcend also. I think because prices are so cheap on USB stick, that it's hit or miss whether you get a good one.

Always backup your USB drives.
