432541 2006-02-21 07:32:00 Got it for free because it was no go. A friend found the problem and now it is going. How does it rate? At the moment I can't play DVD's on it but that could be because I have the sysfile on a hard drive on the same IDE as the DVD player.

I did the Everest benchmark tests and it seems not too good, down around Pentium P4 1.7Ghz, I have PC3200 200Mhz Ram.

432546 2006-02-21 18:05:00 Rubbish board. But as everyone has said: free.

Why so many partitions?

432547 2006-02-22 01:43:00 Can you be more specific and say why you think this board is crap, compared to what? I understand that it is no where near top of the line but within the group that it is part of ie on board graphics etc lack of PCI slots etc what makes it crap. To me it seems very fast at cpu operations ie running reg cleaners, antivirus checks and scans, but seems slow when doing operations involving transfer to the hard drives.

Why is this, also doesn't seem too good at playing DVDs.

The reason I have set up so many partitions is because I like to have swop file on a separate HD plus all temp internet caches for different browsers on a separate partition, backup partition for Acronis or Ghost, Music store partition, general backup of downloaded files not on the partition with the OS, reduces the need to defrag.

I can just backup a whole partition to DVD with having to pick and choose what to save and fit all onto the DVD without having to think and no risk of not backing something up. If the partitions are too large you can't do this.

Also a separate identical bootable operating system on the second hard drive, in case of problems with the first. Better utilisation of the space with less overhang. Plus many files from my old computer ready at a moments notice, not having to search through CDs to find what I want.

432548 2006-02-22 02:53:00 What was wrong with it and what did your friend do to fix it?
This may help with any answers to your questions.
CYaBro (73)
432549 2006-02-22 03:53:00 The cpu was overheating and shutting down because the headsink was incorrectly mounted (probably the original problem) and the ram was not seated correctly probably as a result of repair attempts by the owners technician who shall be un-named. zqwerty (97)
432550 2006-02-22 04:06:00 Why I don't like them is their high failure rate compared with certain other boards.
Doesn't necessarily mean yours in particular is doomed, just I wouldn't ever bother doing builds with them.
