As 3dMarks 06 tests for this, the NV card comes out on top, even though the ATI card IS a quicker card. 3DMark06 is for the NEW cards, not the old generation. And x2 CPUs. The new ATIs do have PS3. Why would you want to test such old generation cards with 3DM06?! |

| 433014 | 2006-02-27 00:53:00 | Thanks for all your replies :) the X800GTO tested slower in 3DMArk06, but as you pointed out, this is because of lack of SM3.0 support. It actually overclocks reliably only by about 5%... And can't be upgraded to the X850 or anything. That's only chips with the R480 core...this one is R430. I wish! Doom3 benchmarks...the X800 is only about 2-4% slower than the NVIDIA, UNLESS AA is turtned on, in which case it's actually quicker. Well known that Doom3 prefers NVIDIA. Didn't get around to benchmarking it with Battlefield2, expect the X800 would have beaten it though... So, X800 is definitely quicker, but doesn't support SM 3.0... Anyway I'm upgrading to prolly a 7800GT :) |

Not too sure how I could misread that line?, lol its there in black and white! The GTO of course does not support SM3.0(as you clearly know) as its last generation, however you clearly stated ONLY Nvidia does which is clearly wrong, sorry if correcting you hurts your pride. Why would you Make that statement if you knew the current generation support it?....... hmm And bardin, the 7800GT is a much better idea :P |

We all have our preferences for video cards and we all have our opinions about one or the other . . . but at the end of the day arguing about which one is better and why others should change to your brand is a bit futile . Personally I like the ATi cards (and this was after years of been a staunch nVidia fan) I switched after I purchased a lack lustre Asus FX5200 which was as useful as a screen door in a submarine . I upgraded the FX5200 to a 9600XT . . . . and I've never looked back . Now that I have the X800XT (which is still a kickass card I might add) I sometimes wonder why I bothered with nVidia in the 1st place . However, that doesn't stop me from recognising the technological advances that nVidia have made and the fact that they do "currently" have a good product line . All that tells me is that ATi will be trying to improve and that cycle will continue if and when ATi get back on top . . . nVidia will do the same and in the end we as consumers will benefit from a wide range of cards . . either way we win . . . despite the occasionally ridiculous price tags .
