432691 2006-02-21 22:40:00 Sometime since upgrading to media player 10 the AVI files my digital camera creates have stopped playing correctly.
The file plays with no error messages but the video is just black. The files play ok on the camera and on my work pc with media player 9.
I have tried 3 pcs running MP10 - none will play these files, and neither will anything else once MP10 is installed.
I tried contacting Fujifilm to no avail. the camera makes MJPEG type avi's

Help anyone??

432692 2006-02-21 23:25:00 You could try reinstalling WMP 10 Overdrive_5000 (4950)
432693 2006-02-22 00:08:00 You could, but try and find out what codec the camera uses, WMP 10 might not have that installed, if it is not find where to DL it then install it.

Try another media player even.

432694 2006-02-22 00:47:00 just to clarify, MJPEG = motion JPEG, microsoft says the codec / filter is part of DiectX9. can't see how re-installing would help as 3 different machines have the same problem. Have tried several programs to play files without any luck. also tried to re-encode to a diff format, but that software obviously uses directshow to decode the picture as well, because it didn't work either. Tried downloading some trial MJPEG codec - made no difference dugimodo (138)
432695 2006-02-22 01:04:00 I would suggest microsofts web site 1st as you should for most MS queries. I sounds like a codex issue to me and MS has a big FAQ list on most of their products.
To reinstall codex, check here 1st

432696 2006-02-22 01:12:00 Have you checked that the option is ticked in wmp......
open the player...go to tools...options...file types..

432697 2006-02-22 02:17:00 File types wont matter if it can be opened in WMP and played in it too.
The best solution is to try another media player that has the specific codec support or at least download the proper codecs to read.

I suggest getting the terribly named GSpot Codec information appliance (www.softpedia.com) Also, check if your camera came with a software cd, since it might come with a codec package.

432698 2006-02-22 04:11:00 I appreciate the suggestions, although some of you seem to miss the point.
I supposedly have the right codec, MP9 used to play the files just fine, MP10 still plays the files without any error messages, just doesn't display a picture. All GPOT tells me is what I already posted, that it's a MJPEG file, in fact the lastest version of Gspot even previews the file perfectly.

432699 2006-02-22 04:28:00 Try the knowledge base at Microsoft.com or FAQ's as I suggested.

432700 2006-02-22 04:50:00 Have you tried playing them in a different media application such as QuickTime? maccrazy (6741)
