433309 2006-02-23 23:27:00 does national data that u D/L using a broadband connection count towards ur monthly data cap with xtra? If it does, why would this be, because telecom said on cambell live that they have data caps cuz its expensive to get data from overseas. But if the data is from NZ, it shouldn't count towards ur data cap. Or can't telecom tells the difference between national and international data> lance4k (4644)

That’s correct telecom cant tells the difference between national and international data as all most all of local data goes out of NZ then come back in as telecom xtra is NOT Peering with any other ISP.

Hope this helps :)

433312 2006-02-24 13:03:00 I'm sick of xtra, my year contract is up, but I have NO idea who to turn to now... There are 5 people using our connection, most love to download drama's from China or Japan, and I like to play online Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat... I'm mostly looking at mid level plans, as we are poor students... I-hug so far looks pretty good, but I'm scared to sign up with another IP and be stuck with them for a year if they suck... PLEASE can someone help me! thanks! bizzack (7739)

Stick with Xtra. At the end of the day, Broadband is a telescum product and if there are poblems, they are more likely to look after their own than an opposition ISP's customers. just my two cents worth (comes from personal experiences by the way)

Actualy not totaly true. Telecom can tell the differnece between national and international traffic, it is called IP Net, the big backbone that interconnects DSL, X25 and the modem pool.

So Telecom can tell the traffic that is sent via IP Net is national, so providing a provider has a POP on IP Net then that traffic is national.

Off cause once traffic goes off IP Net then it is any ones guess.

The same can also be said of Telstra Clear and its fiber backbone.
