| 433438 | 2006-02-26 09:05:00 | The only other thing i can suggest without seeing the machines myself is uninstalling everything network related Uninstall the NIC and let XP redetect it Uninstall Client for MS Windows etc etc and reinstall Release all shares Change workgroup names Rename each machine etc etc To have it happen on 2 machines at the same time is very strange, which makes me think it must have been user intervention somewhere along the line Sorry, I'm screwed without seeing the machines What about installing netbui from the CD and trying that? Hell I'm grasping at straws now! |

| 433439 | 2006-02-26 10:20:00 | Ouch, but I may have no choice. I'll have a go on one machine in the next day or so. To say it happened at the same time is not quite correct. I have "discovered" it at the same time only cause I need to share folders on both machines and it is something I have not done for ages. It could have happened any time over the last 18 months. Also both machines are used for very different purposes so besides the initial install and Office, they have very little in common. Personally I blame XP and a patch / upgrade / SP2 applied somewhere along the line. I note that sharing folders for messenger still has bugs..... Anyone know of any third party tools / shareware that will share folders? I could try this first before the nuclear option..... |

| 433440 | 2006-02-26 10:38:00 | Go to this page and do an in page search for "share", the top result may be some help: www.kellys-korner-xp.com and found this, maybe this has been done already: Shared Documents - Remove Start/Run/Regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\My Computer\NameSpace\ DelegateFolders Delete this key {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}. The Shared Documents folders (which are normally under the group called "Other Files Stored on This Computer") will be gone. Best I can find. Sorry. |

| 433442 | 2006-02-28 04:57:00 | Sadly a deinstall / reinstall of all network components did not help. Still the same problem. Read all the other tips and they did not help either. However I have found a work around. Boot under Safe Mode with Networking and I can share / unshare and see the properties of folders at will. When I reboot under normal mode the shares that were set up under safe mode remain active and working. Go figure, under Safe Mode everything works ok, under Normal Mode the share dialog box just refuses to appear. It kind of points to a service or app causing the problem but I have no clue what it is as all apps have been disabled / removed and my HJT dump confirms this. Anyhow, thanks for all your help, I'll live with it until a reinstall occurs at some inevitable point in the not to distant future. |
