433238 2006-02-23 09:59:00 Hi
As the cdwriter will not work I am thinking of repalcing it with a DVD writer eg Sony. I have P2 computer built by Houston computers for me 8 years ago and would like to know if the dvd writer will run on it. It has a GA-686lx3 board.

Can you be more specific as to what your computer specs are? A P2 just tells us you have a Pentium 2 based computer (which in itself may have trouble with making DVD's)

Everest (www.majorgeeks.com) is a program which can help with ID'ing your computer innards.

433240 2006-02-23 10:43:00 I can just imagine the time it would take for burning a DVD, how's capacity on your hard drive(s)? That would probably be the next thing you'd look at.

Your processor may just fall within minimal, but we never trust that. Memory, you'd probably be best to up it. Hard Drive space, another consideration.

Sooner or later, you'd be looking at buying a new computer, so maybe just spend $30 on a new CDWriter and save up for a newer computer, by then, everything should be reasonably speedy for you.

Cheers,

KK
