434326 2006-02-28 01:48:00 Hi all,

I'm using WinXP Pro and I have a folder which I can't seem to get rid of. It may have gotten corrupted at some point but now I can't rename, delete or move it as I "Cannot find the specified file" or "Cannot read from the source file or disk".

Is there any way of ridding my drive of this folder??? I've tried changing atributes and even deleting it in command prompt (which doesn't delete it but doesn't give any errors either) and no joy.

Thanks a lot.

434327 2006-02-28 02:06:00 Open Explorer - Right-Click on the Drive go to properties, then tools tab and select check now. You may need to restart the computer. KiwiTT_NZ (233)
434328 2006-02-28 03:29:00 Have you tried deleting it in Safe Mode? mark c (247)
434329 2006-02-28 03:48:00 If you can't delete it in safe mode, try renaming it and see if it will delete (still in safe mode), or moving it to another folder and trying delete again .

If all else fails try MoveOnBoot ( . snapfiles . com/get/moveonboot . html" target="_blank">www . snapfiles . com) . I'm not sure whether that allows folders to be deleted but there is no harm in trying .

434330 2006-02-28 03:56:00 Might it be a directory on a removable device? This might be unlikely .

I'm surprised that a command line delete didn't give any error message . One trick which often works if there are "illegal characters" in a filename preventing access is to refer to the file with wildcards . dir firstpartofname* or dir *tailofname to make sure you've got the right one, then, e . g . , del firstpartofname* with whatever wildcarded name works . :D

434332 2006-03-01 03:54:00 je, I had a file like that on my external drive, which I used last night to save stuff off the boy's pc. One of the transfers mucked up, I was able to re-copy it, but the original I couldn't delete. So did an

took 1.5 hours this morning but it repaired the file and then I deleted it.
The boy has a USB 1 pc, took me 3 hours to transfer all his stuff last night and quarter of an hour to load on my pc this morning!!
