434333 2006-02-28 00:16:00 Hi

Having recently bought and installed a DVD R/W drive to accomodate the PC World DVD, I've been playing around with various overseas DVDs. I've used the DVD player for a few NZ, Australian and English DVDs. I'm not up with the play regarding zones but a couple of times I have had to change my DVD zone to play a DVD and there is a counter that is counting down the number of times I have left for changing the DVD zone.

Is there any way to reset this counter? Or is there a way around this? I'm using an Imation rewritable dual layer +/- drive. I'm not into piracy or anything like that but I'm anxious about being kneecapped if I keep playing UK and NZ DVDs on my PC.

Cheers, Andrew

434334 2006-02-28 00:29:00 If you're talking about playing different zones on XP, then no, you only have so many changes, and it locks it at the last zone. And cant be changed.

There are programs around that'll fix this. There's a few posts here, naming them.

It depends on what kind of DVD you're playing and what zone they are.

434335 2006-02-28 00:39:00 Some DVD drives are physically resettable though, Speedy. So that statement is only partially correct and its the drive firmware involved, nothing to do with XP.

My cheap DSE DVD-RW drive resets the zone counter by pressing the eject tray button, holding the tray open while pressing the eject button again for 6 seconds.

Quite neat really.

Might have been the Pioneer.

434338 2006-02-28 00:52:00 Thanks for the replies. I tried the 6 second thing with the tray open without luck. I can't find the threads you are alluding to Speedy - has anyone had any experience with LtnRPC? (dhc014.rpc1.org) I found a link to it in another forum .

Hi, I found that too on the 'net. Have you used it? It doesn't bugger up the drive or anything?

434341 2006-02-28 01:42:00 dvdgenie is only for removing region settings in dvd software players like PowerDVD or WinDVD.
If your DVD drive has region protection then you need to get around this as well.
I have used dvdgenie before with no problems.
I have also used the LtnRPC with no problems but this will only work if your DVD drive is a LiteOn brand.

This is what I use before I load any video DVD's. Haven't had to change the region once.
