Alternatively in Konqueror, in the address field enter /mnt/cdrom Jen will along soon as she is the resident Fedora export (sorry expert :D ) |

| 434009 | 2006-02-27 01:50:00 | hey thanx gibler. It works now. I have mounted the cdrom and copied the file and renamed it.. but now, im trying to run the file. i have changed the permissions for the files. using "chmod a+x file" but now wen i try to execute the file using "./file" its comes with : bad interpreter: no such file or directory" NOTE: the file im trying to execute is a very small script. what does this mean? thanx |

But it's more likely to have a line saying what interpreter it needs, since it's complaining about a missing interpreter . That line would be the first one and look like #!/bin/sh . When you say "DOS linux" do you mean "command line Linux"? That is not DOS . If it's a short script, why not show us . Text files copied from DOS/Windows systems can have superfluous carriage return characters at the end of each line unless they are give special treatment . (DOS end of line is CR,LF; *nix end of line is just LF)This can affect the use of the files . |

| 434011 | 2006-02-27 05:07:00 | This is just a text file you don't need execute permissions for it, just read/write, it's not binary or a compiled program. chmod 644 for any ASCII/Text files. Now it probably has the carriage return and line feed characters, if it was created in Windows, so you'll need to run dos2unix on the file first, to fix the characters up. You should specify the interpretter inside the script file, just like Graham L suggests. You can also use the interpretter e.g. sh file.txt Cheers, KK |

| 434012 | 2006-02-27 06:43:00 | Hi there, The code starts off like this . . . . #!/bin/sh ifconfig wlan0 down and so on . . . It's acutally a txt file from windows and now being copied to federo (linux software) and also changing the extention and den makin it executable . (for ex: chmod a+x file) and then . /file I have done all that in 1 of the laptops and it works prefectly and i have executed the file . But the problem now i have is im trying to do exactly the same thing again in another laptop but now i keep getting this error : bad interpreter: no such file or directory" so does this mean that the linux is laptop 2 is missing some library files or something like that? I have no idea . Please advice . Thanx :) |
