433840 2006-02-25 23:38:00 Seriously! As I'm typing this, there is this loud squeaky noise (like someone in pain) coming out of my laptop... I believe its from the hard drive compartment... Sometimes it just came and go, sometimes it lasts for hours. The only way to get rid of the noise is to gently press at the areas which the noise come from (sometimes work sometimes dont). Or just turn the laptop upside down...

The laptop will be working very slow (or sometimes hang) when the noise is there....

Anyone know what is wrong with my laptop?? Please help...

433841 2006-02-25 23:48:00 Seriously! As I'm typing this, you should take it to a techy or contact warranty if it is still covered.
Pressing gently anywhere on a Lappy is not recommended
It's probably a cooling fan seizing
I'd do something about it before it squeaks no more
Unless you know a fair bit about pulling Lappys apart I wouldn't recommend you have a go at it yourself

433843 2006-02-26 00:39:00 Might be time for a new hard drive for it then. Best to start backing up your data now, just in case. FoxyMX (5)

I agree with FoxyMX, any bad noises coming from the hard drive area is NOT a good thing & you should be backing up your data while you type your next post.

433845 2006-02-26 01:08:00 If you're sure it is the drive then turn it off and don't use it again till you've had it checked out by a tech and had the drive replaced.
If it seizes while being used, there is little chance of saving any data on the the drive without spending a whole lot of money
