433901 2006-02-26 10:25:00 AS a former PC Co customer, I'm figuring the disc is a product disc.
Maybe ring Microsoft and tell them what the problem is and see if it can be handled via phone?

433903 2006-02-27 21:24:00 There's an off-chance you've been given an upgrade edition versus a full retail version or someone's posted your CD key on the Internet.

You stated that you 'purchased Windows XP Professional with the systems'. If that is the case, the correct 25-character Product Key should be found on a sticker somewhere on the computer case. That Product Key will only work with the Windows XP CD the computer shipped with. It will not work with any other installation CD. If you do not have the CD, contact the manufacturer of the computer and request a replacement."

433905 2006-02-27 21:32:00 Phone Microsoft, it will give you a local number to dial if the product key doesnt work, it's easy and fast. I done it a couple of times. Rob99 (151)

not always correct.........however this can be an issue because the algorithims of other cd's can be different to those of the original......or that's what Ms told me anyway.....

What about when one creates a slipstreamed cd? Apparently that's not discouraged by microsoft.
I recently re-installed xphome on my old computer and the cd that came with it (Compaq) wouldn't work. So I used the xp home disc that came with my laptop and used the product key on the computer, worked fine (I've since just installed linux on this machine). Also on my new computer, upgrade box; I went to use my xp Pro disc & it wouldn't work :groan: Talk about frustrating, so I installed the aforesaid xp home disc, then the xp pro upgrade cd, which I bought for my laptop, then used the product key on the faulty xp Pro cd; worked fine also.
I don't consider I've done anything wrong as I have already purchased the os's in good faith and I've used the appropriate product keys (someone might put me straight here).
