| 435174 | 2006-03-03 03:11:00 | Hi there, I have just done a fresh Windows 98 install on a newly formatted disk and find that whenever I make a conection with the modem (Pragmatic 56k soft modem with Connexant chip) the system completely locks up. It's an older machine, Celeron 400/256MB RAM and works fine until it dials up. I've checked IRQ's and there doesn't appear to be any conflict and the Device Manager reports no errors. I'm really scratching my head here. Does anyone have any suggestions please? |

| 435175 | 2006-03-03 03:15:00 | Is it actually making a connection? That is, is it successfully recognising dial tone, dialling, gettting an answer, negotiating speed, logging in? Turn on that window which shows the progress of a call. Locking up is unlikely; waiting for something which never happens is more plausible. ;) Device Manager is like a human manager; it knows nothing. :D |

| 435177 | 2006-03-03 03:18:00 | Check that the modem is not fauly by trying it on another computer IF possible. Have you got the correct drivers for the modem? Pragmatic 56k's sound like a generic name. Is it seated properly? |
