434642 2006-02-28 18:51:00 how can I grant a user to run a particular program with administrator rights?

the program does not work under the limited user rights, only when it is run as administrator. (XP system)

thanks

434643 2006-02-28 19:40:00 Depending on your situation, you could always right click the app and use runas but then the user needs to know an admin password. The other option below.

I have been meaning to try this program but haven't got round to it yet. Let me know how it goes if you try it.

434644 2006-02-28 19:46:00 You may have to adjust rights for the program via the Windows Registry. Usually you do with programs like Quickbooks.

If you do a search in registry for the program, then check permissions for each of the relevant hits, you should be okay.

434645 2006-02-28 21:17:00 Microsoft Vista is supposed to address this.

Anyhow sysinternals makes regmon and filemon (registry and file monitoring). They're free and very handy.

434646 2006-03-02 08:47:00 thanks folks,

however, RunAsUser.exe is not working (running error). For changing registry I haven't found out yet where to do that. Also haven't found out yet what Microsoft Vista or quickbooks is. Sysinternals are very nice tools, view only tho, can't change anything.

I have just tried RunasUser on an .exe file that I had to run with an admin account. I can now run it with a limited account. I have only done the one file so I will have to try others to see how good it is overall, but it did work. Where was the running error? In the RunasUser program file or the new .exe etc file you created?
