| 435182 | 2006-03-03 02:09:00 | Hey. I'm running outlook 2003, and i'm trying to set it up so i can access my emails thro a LAN. I can access the net over the LAN, no probs. BUt theres a few things - when i leave the local intranet, i must log in with my own data, so when i'm surfing the net, a login window just comes up and i enter the details and it's fine. And i couldn't get MSN to work, until i put my LAN login details into the Http proxy server settings (in advanced connection settings) But i can't find out where to do this in outlook. I have it set so i 'connect to the net through a LAN' but everytime i try check my emails it says "connection cannot be made" so i'm guessing i have to tell it to login in first, but i dont no how to set this. Any ideas? Cheers |

You say you can get on the net OK then say you have to enter a user name and password. Sounds to me you have a proxy server in a busniness enviroment. The network administrator probably has the ports blocked so you can't access email. Is Outlook using Exchange Server? We need more info on how the network is made up. |

| 435184 | 2006-03-04 00:08:00 | hey. um, i don't no much about networks. but its a University network (ie, really big) so i'm guessing its more like a business setup than a personal lan. at the moment, when i jump onto a pc, i open up a net browser, and it goes to the intranet, i can browse this fine, as soon as i open up an external (internet) pg, i have to login using my details, and its fine. This is so they can charge my account for download fees. and on msn, i had to enter in these login details in the 'http proxy server settings' i done this by just trail and error (placing my details in all the options until one worked!) No outlook is not on a exchange server (i've just brought my laptop from my home - which had direct access to teh net, to here, so nothing has changed) so i'm guessing i need to change the ports around? anyone no what they could be or how to find out? (i asked a computer dude about accessing the net thro outlook, he just sed, "oh, just access it thro webmail") cheers |
