435635 2006-03-05 05:17:00 I was wondering if anyone has any tips for setting up a home network.

I have a Dynalink RTA1320 ADSL Modem and Level One WBR-3406TX Wireless Broadband Router. I had this unit hooked up to a woosh modem no worries but changed to a wired connection with a new Modem.

I have had no luck getting the two to work together, I can get internet fine plugged into the modem, but dont get anything plugged when into the router. I have tried changing IP addresses and WAN types etc....

The modem is set to IP of 192.168.1.1 and Router to 192.168.123.254, although I have tried changing this to others such as 192.168.1.2. The help files are no help basically saying plug it all up and it will work no worries!

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

435636 2006-03-05 18:07:00 Have you tried pushing a toothpick into the reset holes? I did this when changing to a DSL modem a friend gave me to try at my place..it did the same as you are getting until I hit the resets. SurferJoe46 (51)
435637 2006-03-05 20:32:00 What subnet mask and default gateway are you using with the 192 network?

The default gateway on the PCs and router IP address should be the same, and within the subnet of the PC.

Have you tried something like this, to check name resolution:

Start... Run... Cmd

ping www.google.co.nz

Pinging www.l.google.com [66.102.7.104] with 32 bytes of data:

435638 2006-03-05 23:22:00 Forgot to mention, a firewall at either end may block pings. The only important information is this "www.l.google.com [66.102.7.104]"

So this is OK, as far as name resolution goes:

C:\>ping www.microsoft.com

Pinging lb1.www.ms.akadns.net [207.46.20.30] with 32 bytes of data:
