With the slow system you have got you would be better off saving those subscriptions, throwing the money saved to beef up your system to something better and then install the free programs from advice already given. All the free programs already mentioned will be more than adequate, unless you intend doing something or going somewhere and expecting to have your computer heavily infected with nasties. Thanks for you comment. Yes that;s probably true, but anyway, which antivirus is actually the lightest on the computer (small, good, working)? Is it Aavast, AVG or Other? |

I know its this, coz I uninstalled it, and the disconnecting stopped. I have yet to figure out, why this program does this. |

| 435601 | 2006-03-08 07:10:00 | every one has their favorites. there is no one that is the lightest. often the "light" ones are set to minimal scan, an old trick most AV progs do is limit what they scan to keep performance levels up. also AV's, by their very nature, get updated and changed so often the program that is tested WILL NOT be what you are running. what is "light" today is gludgy tomorrow. just stay clear of the current problematic ones (eg nortons) and find one that is works ok for you. |

| 435605 | 2006-03-10 20:35:00 | Well, try whatever and find out. I only use Zonealarm, the AV for this isnt great. BUT I also use trojan remover, and xoftspy. These usually pick up any nasties, but these arent free. I tried that PC-cillin Internet Security program, it kept on disconnecting me. So, I wiped it, I used to have AVG but it went, when it felt like it, and Nortons as most people have said already, was a memory hog. Some people dont even use a firewall or an AV program. But use other programs to keep their system free of spyware / viruses etc. |
