435678 2006-03-05 11:21:00 Each time I rename My Computer, after a reboot it decides to go back to "My Computer".

This minor problem irritates the heck out of me.

Any ideas as to how I can make the change permanent, please?

This has only been an issue since I performed a Repair recently.

Thanks!

(WinXP Pro Sp1)

435679 2006-03-05 11:36:00 How are you trying to rename it, through explorer, registry or resource hacking? My guess is only the last two will work as it is a default windowsXP folder. Rob99 (151)
435680 2006-03-05 16:40:00 I just right clicked on the My Computer icon, clicked on RENAME and did it...it stuck over a year ago and is still the way I made it...

but of course, I am using SP2 too.

435681 2006-03-05 17:41:00 just did that with my pc and it 'took' fine.........maybe you got some security app running that prevents such activity ? drcspy (146)
435682 2006-03-05 18:22:00 its sentient!!

Things to try...
Use 'please' next time you try to change it.
Don't show fear, computers can tell immediatly.
Wave a heavy computing manual in a threatening manner at it (If you don't have one stick the cover of PCworld over an old telephone book)
Pick it up off the desk and threaten it with the old "1.. 2.. 3.. drop!"

435686 2006-03-07 18:28:00 My CLSID doesn't have any of those values .

[edit] Did a search and found that My Computer string in another location . There's several instances of Display Name, so I'm gonna muck around with them . We'll see .

435687 2006-03-07 22:02:00 Those are the hard coded class id's. No PC's will have all of them, but there should be at least a couple here:
