435933 2006-03-06 04:21:00 I have a HP Pavilion 8835 Celeron 766Mhz CPU 128Mb RAM 20.4Gb Hard Drive

Which I use in my garage mainly for music online or as a jukebox, my problem is its sooooooo slow and it keeps purring away all the time. I was advised that adding another 128mb SD Ram might speed it up as it takes forever to boot up etc. I'm using XP Pro or is it a hard drive problem?

435934 2006-03-06 04:35:00 um actually..uninstall windows xp and use windows 98 instead if all u do is listen to music. that should help. jason_f90 (3544)
435935 2006-03-06 04:50:00 I'd say use 2000 if you can get your hands on a copy. its better than 98 & not much slower Greven (91)
435936 2006-03-06 05:04:00 Defrag the computer, get this:

http://www.ccleaner.com

Check and reduce your entries in startup, using "startup cpl", google it.

435937 2006-03-06 05:11:00 128 meg of ram and running XP, yep it will be slow. reguardless of OS install more ram. 98 is a leaner OS but even then 128 is fairly minimal. tweak'e (69)
435938 2006-03-06 06:52:00 lol 98 was designed to run on 32mb easily so 128 will rock......however winXP is badly slow on 128 it's minimal........ drcspy (146)

yeah right !

98 requires MINIMUM of 32 meg to run. the old optimium ram size used to be 196meg, however with cheap ram these days 256meg is a good size.

i'm starting to show may age.......;)

You can use Ccleaner to remove unwanted startup entries. Look under 'Tools'. :)

435941 2006-03-06 11:55:00 Too risky, startup cpl allows you to disable and experiment, before deleting. zqwerty (97)
