435905 2006-03-06 04:13:00 Looking for advice on buying a new Router.

Must have:
1/ Wireless networking with WPA support
2/ 4ports minimum - prefer switch
3/ VPN Endpoint, have only found a couple of routers that support VPN endpoint most just support VPN passthru.

What is ADSL2 and will we get it in NZ in the next 3-4 years? The Linksys routers that support VPN endpoint don't support ADSL2, which is rather annoying.

Thanks in advance for your help

I won’t thought so it will be more like 5 - 10 years before we get ADSL2

435907 2006-03-21 00:04:00 Ummm.. you're a little off there lol... about June, this year.

"Telecom New Zealand Ltd has announced its plans to roll out ADSL2 broadband services to New Zealanders mid-way through 2006.

With speeds of up to 24Mbps (megabits per second), it will eclipse todays consumer broadband speeds of 2Mbps (which are already nearly doubling to 3.5Mbps in April 2006)."

Of course knowing Telecom the data caps will be a joke and the pricing will be bordering on extortion.

Yes, that is when they will start the roll out, but it will be at lest two - three years at lest before they get to south Auckland / Pakuranga area.

435910 2006-04-10 12:00:00 I've also been having difficulty choosing between three routers - the Linksys WRT54GC, NetGear WGR614 and Belkin F5D7230AU4, with the Belkin being $15 - $20 cheaper than the other two.

All three have SPI, and was wondering if any people here have one of the above routers and could comment on it - I did search the model numbers here but that didn't turn anything up.

Cheers
