2006-03-09 08:35:00 | Greetings friends, Has anyone been able to access www.forums.xandros.com this afternoon? It was fine this morning but seems to have become unresponsive since I got home from work at around 3.30 pm. Cheers, Jim Registered Linux user #409 991

2006-03-09 19:25:00 | Greetings Jen, Thanks for replying. I'm confused about what is going on. If I click on the link as shown in your post, the computer just goes into waiting mode. Nothing appears in the window at the top of the screen. However, if I manually type http//:forums.xandros.com into the same box, I mysteriously get redirected to microsoft.com. Could it be that someone has hacked into the Xandros forums site? Cheers, Jim

2006-03-10 04:06:00 | :( I am still having trouble connecting to Xandros forums. Ignore my reference to being redirected to m$ - that only happened when I put the "//" before the ":" as in my earlier post. However, when I try http://forums.xandros.com the message at the bottom of the screen says that it is "Waiting for forums.xandros.com" ; nothing appears in the top address bar; and I don't get connected. If, however, I type the above into the top address bar, I get a Firefox message to say that it can't connect to the server at forums.xandros.com Could someone else try the link and let me know whether it is my computer or xandros that is having problems. Thank you, Jim

2006-03-10 04:29:00 | Well I get the error message with www.forums.xandros.com/ (Firefox can't find the server at www.forums.xandros.com), but I can access the forum OK with http: Try clicking on http://209.87.236.20/ and see if you can access the forum off that page.

2006-03-12 03:21:00 | Jen, About 6.30 am Saturday, I was suddenly able to access the forum. (I had tried typing in the DNS numbers that you gave me with no success either). One other regular member of the forum from USA also found himself blocked for 48 hours (the same as I did). His ISP suggested that his firewall was playing up and that they could see the forum themselves. He disabled Firestarter and was able to regain access. Reinstating the firewall meant that he could still access the forum. Firewall here is Guarddog and I have not disabled it. Regular access since early yesterday has been achieved every time I have tried. We have been away down seeing our grandchildren on the Kapiti Coast for 24 hours. Hence I didn't get the opportunity to get back to you to thank you for your comments. So, a belated thanks for your efforts on my behalf. Cheers, Jim

2006-03-19 04:56:00 | Update on access to Xandros forums . I lost access again last Thursday morning in the middle of browsing the forum . Haven't been able to access it from Xandros since . It seems that there are several people in North America who also find the same difficulty . I can access using Knoppix v3 . 9 or v4 . 0 from home . I can also access from school using windows . I wonder if there are any Xandros users here in NZ who have found the same problem . When trying to connect, the message comes back "Looking up forums . xandros . com" followed immediately by "Connecting to forums . xandros . com" and then "Waiting for forums . xandros . com" . And that is where it stays . I have run a "traceroute" on the address . It gets to a site at xandros in Canada on line 19 and then stalls at line number 20 through 30 when it drops out . That seems to indicate that the problem exists within xandros own network in Ontario . Have tried using Opera, XFM, Konqueror, Firefox 1 . 07, Firefox 1 . 5, and, today, Firefox 1 . 5 . 0 . 1 all with the same effect . There is no problem visiting other sites . When Jen replied to my earlier posts, the problem didn't seem as bad . It is certainly more difficult . One US reader is able to access by cranking up Ubuntu; another by using a Proxy . It has got this brain beat! Puzzling!! Thanks for reading this . Cheers, Jim

2006-03-19 21:56:00 | I'd be thinking it's there servers.. I just tried to access it with Firefox 1.5.0.1 on Gentoo Linux, and it was sweet Thanks for coming back to my post, Tazz. I think that there are plenty of linux distros that can access http://forums.xandros.com at present. After all, I am able to access with Knoppix 4.0 and Knoppix 3.9 but not, currently, with Xandros. I was really trying to find out if there are any other users of Xandros here in NZ who are finding the same problem. I could install another distro but that really defeats the purpose of going on to that forum. Some weeks ago, I made the decision to stay with Xandros 3.0 Deluxe as my only OS, and I intend doing that. W*****s has been removed altogether. Cheers, Jim :help:
