436814 2006-03-08 22:26:00 hey.
yesterday i slipstreamed sp2 into winXp, which was alot easier than i thought it was goign to be.
now i want to make it unattended, but i want to add the drivers that my parents laptop came with (so it can easily be reinstalled whenever they infect themselves.
how woudl i go about adding the drivers to the installation cd?

how woudl i go about adding the drivers to the installation cd?I've got some instructions somewhere here about how to make an unattended install CD - it's a bit more long-winded that slipstreaming, but it works (I had to make a DVD rather than a CD because I ended up with a 1gb+ install image ;))

I'll see if I can find the info for you.

436817 2006-03-08 23:39:00 What sort of drivers are they?

You could try Here (www.msfn.org) for some help on integrating drivers for an unattended install, try searching for your make and model for your hardware and you might be lucky.

436820 2006-03-09 08:59:00 Good idea with the attented install, however what about all the personal settings once the install finished, like M$ office, e-mail servers, printers, a/v, updates....etc.

Easier and faster way in to complete the entire install, all applications & setting then image it to a bootable DVD, or span accross CD's

10min rebuild....sweet as!

436822 2006-03-09 23:39:00 Mike, unattented will not setting up pop3 accounts, desktop settings, updates, office install, a/v software or printers, therefore, mostly doesnt come into it.

Imaging is much better, I doubt many network technicans such as myself use unattended anymore

pop3 = no
desktop settings = depends what you mean by desktop settings
updates = yes
office install = yes (depends on your office version/license)
av software = yes
printers = yes

Imaging can cause other issues that unattended installs don't run in to. Sure the time may be cut down, but it's not always the better way to do it. An unattended doesn't really have time come into it much anyway - you don't have to sit there waiting to put in all the settings etc., as that would have been done when the disk was created.
