436800 2006-03-08 22:15:00 Ok it has been a long long time since i created a full on access database with a GUI front end,
unfortunately this is exactly what i need to do, (never volunteer to do something until it has been explained to you completely)

The database backend isn't to much of a problem as i have been working with tables and queries in access recently,

I'll describe what is needed here before i confuse the issue completely

The person (Bob) sells ink cartridges, they want a database of the clients with the usual client details and what printers they have, so as to make re-ordering easier,
Now Bob wants to be able to enter the customer details into a form, then select the printers from a dropdown box,
Also bob needs to be able to add printers to a printers list and associate them with cartridges

and thats it, problem is I haven't done forms, switchboard etc for ages

I have planned out a basic database

Customer Details
cust_ID
cust_Name
etc...

Printers
print_ID
man_ID
print_Name
etc..

Manufacturer
man_ID
man_name

Cartridge
cart_ID
cart_name
cart_specs

Customer_Printer
cust_ID
print_ID

Cartridge_Printer
print_ID
cart_ID

What i can't seem to work out is how to enter customer details then go to another form and add in the printers (passing variables between forms), - the other thing is I want bob to select manufacturer first so the dropdown list of printers is a bit shorter

Does this make sense, is there a good site for learning about forms (as they are the main thing that seem to be throwing me), switchboards etc

436801 2006-03-09 05:55:00 Hi Nigel

Rather than using different forms to maintain customers and their printers, why not use a main form to maintain the customer details and a subform to maintain their list of printers?

For the linked combo boxes, have a read of this webpage:
www.fontstuff.com

It shows you how to link combo boxes such that the choice in one dictates the options available in the next one, and so on.

There are some useful websites here:

www.rogersaccesslibrary.com
www.candace-tripp.com
office.microsoft.com

and there are plenty of Access help available here:
