436609 2006-03-08 06:16:00 I currently have to hard drives installed - a 120gig and a 80gig.

On the 120gig there are 2 partitions - a 40gig and an 80gig (simplified)

The 80gig is one partition.

What i want to do is merge the 80 gis partition on the 120gig drive with the partition on the 80gig drive.
So I hopefully would end up with:

- 40gig partition }120gig hard drive (XP Drive)
- 160gig partition} 80gig and 120gig hard drive.

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2. Both hard drive are IDE and all are NTFS. I have PartitionMagic 8 installed.

Is this possible and if so, how would i go about doing it?

Cheers

436610 2006-03-08 06:19:00 Have u tried to use Partitionmagic to see if this will do it? Speedy Gonzales (78)
436611 2006-03-08 06:27:00 Sounds like you want to do RAID 0
I think there is a way to combine them using "Dynamic Discs" in WIndows Disk Manager -- though im afraid i have no idea how to do it.

436613 2006-03-08 06:34:00 not a good idea. even IF you can do it, any change with the 2nd drive is going to stuff up all data on that drive and half of the other drive, its begging for trouble.

swap the drives around and run the OS off the 80gig.

436615 2006-03-23 12:50:00 to merge disks, you must first convert them from basic to dynamic (right click my computer\manage\disk management) from there, right click the disk which you wish to convert, (right click the part where its says disk 0) then click convert, if you want you can convert all your drives if you wish. restart and return to disk management, now it depands upon your configuration, if ou have a system partition you cant merge the other disk to it, but if you hav a empty partition and the other drive is free space, then right click the free space or partiton select new partition, create a spanned partition, clcik next, add other disks and format as ntfs, u can resize partitons that DONOT hav system files on it. Not sure if this helped but useful to know, and cheaperhan raid...... aidanmaz (7180)
