436989 2006-06-07 08:07:00 Save yourself heaps of money and buy a text book (or even two) and study by yourself. I haven't done this for A+ but have for Linux+ and Network+. johnd (85)
436990 2006-06-07 08:28:00 But then if u only read about it, what will u get out of it??

I know most of the ins/outs, but that isnt going to help me.

If I dont get some kind of cert to prove it.

I wouldnt bother, if it wouldnt get me some kind of job.

How many people wld employ you with no proof / or certificate??

Even tho u say you know what you're doing?

436991 2006-06-07 09:16:00 There seems to be some confusion here - CompTIA is a series of international exams that you can sit without doing a course. Doing a course is only to help you for a particular exam - you can enrol and sit the exam without ever doing a course.

The exam price differs for each one but is in the order of $500 from memory - a bit cheaper than the figures mentioned!

436992 2006-06-07 09:43:00 $7000 OMG you are an idiot if you spent anything like that on those exams.

Do NOT take a course for this. I sat the A+ exam about 5 years back and studied for it while working, using free online resources found using Google (I think about 4 weeks of night study) and I am at best an average student. It is a very easy exam , you do not need to spend six months and thousands of dollars at some lame institution.

I think the actuall exam costed about $350 and I sat it at Drake.

436993 2006-06-07 12:58:00 Do they have samples of this exams? gum digger (6100)
436994 2006-06-07 20:21:00 www.google.co.nz ctise&btnG=Search&meta=

go try some.........and DONT spend all that money and clock up any kind of student loan in the hope that getting A+ will get you a job - IT WONT...you can learn all you need with a couple of old puters to play with and a bit of time spent online learning ......theres HEAPS of resources out there for A+ ........believe me I've been there and still owe the govt about $10,000 .....i'd advise against your going to some institution.......a lot of them use the 'learnkey' method of instruction.....this basically amounts to about 8 hours of video instruction on a puter and damn all else........DO IT YOURSELF.......cause A+ WONT get you ANY job .......it wont

436995 2006-06-07 22:51:00 K Thanks gum digger (6100)
436996 2006-06-08 03:40:00 I agree the A+ or MS certifications will not get you a job, but they can definately help .

Some local and central government departments for example require MCSE for even basic support roles (not saying I agree with that) .

A+ is worth doing as it is a quick easy qualification and gives you some sort of industry qualification .

I will give you another hot tip .

Search "A+ brain dumps" . Not saying you need them for this exams, but they do help with MS qualifications where some of the questions are ridiculous .

436997 2006-06-08 06:59:00 How hard are these exams. can i cope up with the study?/.

When I did my A+ it was 5mins total for both software and hardware.
The only hard part was the crappy images that looked like a drunk 6month old child drew!! Ohh and 2mins of that was reading the instructions and the questionare at the end.
All up a very simple test.

Network+ is not to hard either and the test is fairly easy, the images are a lot better!!! Think is was about 11-14mins for that one.

For both exams the questions where fairly straight forward if you read them carefully and not read anything into them.

As to the worth of them, must in NZ do not know a thing about them.
