436568 2006-03-10 07:04:00 Both computers can now see one another. Why I know not. One of the computers can see the other in 'network neighbourhood' and comes up with '\\AMD is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resourse. Contact the administrater of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied' when I click on it. But in exploprer I have mapped the network drive as '\\AMD\c' and can access all the files that way. And I still havn't found the PF1 FAQ on networking. And is there a simple 1) do this 2) do this 3) do this, somewhere to set up a network? David DavidW (532)
436569 2006-03-10 21:22:00 And I still havn't found the PF1 FAQ on networking.

436570 2006-03-10 21:54:00 I realy must be dumb. I can find no way to access FAQ #60. If I click on the FAQ link at the top of the page I get a list that goes up to #50. If I put FAQ #60 into the 'Search Word(s):' I get 'sorry no matches' How do you access the FAQ's? :help: David DavidW (532)
436571 2006-03-10 22:00:00 You are not dumb. :)

The Networking FAQ has not been added to the ones in the FAQ section - the only way to access it is from a bookmark or by searching for it with known search terms as I did (I used the author's name, which is highlighted in red on the page I linked to in my previous post).

The reason for this is that this FAQ and some others were missed during the transfer over from the previous forum.

One way of accessing all the FAQs is to use the Advanced Search and specify "Search titles only" with FAQ in the search field.

436572 2006-03-11 00:14:00 ... I have followed all the network wizards available, named and renamed everything possible, torn my hair out but I still can't see the other computer...

It should have worked. ;)

Networking isn't easy, despite all the propaganda. But the wizards should certainly have set up a working system for you because you have a perfectly standard configuration.

I suspect you might not have rebooted when you should have, and when things didn't work, you started to "name and rename everything" and it was all over. :groan: Perhaps only one "wizard" was needed. Too many cooks?

All the setup options have to be exactly right.

My approach would be to uninstall the network stuff, and start again. Start with everything turned off, then get one computer talking to the M1122 and the Internet (to make sure that one computer is capable of using TCP/IP ;) ).. Then, while not connected to the Internet, use the Windows wizard to get the computers working together. If it tells you to restart a computer, do it. :) Shut it down completely, and start from cold.
