| 436843 | 2006-03-09 01:33:00 | Are any firewalls installed? Is this laptop trying to get access to the net, through another PC? If so, does the other PC, use a firewall? What operating systems are installed, on the laptop and other PC/s? Do you have wireless internet access, and a wireless network? Have u got a wireless router/access point if u use a wireless network? If you do have a wireless network, did u enter the ip address in manually?? |

| 436844 | 2006-03-09 01:38:00 | the only firewall is the built in one with with the router modem (linksys). laptop doesn't require the pc to gain access to the internet. xp pro on both laptop and pc, did not enter ip address manually | pagano (9948) | ||

| 436846 | 2006-03-09 02:28:00 | So the wireless lan on the laptop isnt connected to anything else then?? ie: Another PC with a wireless PCI / USB adapter? The wireless LAN isnt needed, if you're using a wireless internet connection / or dialup/adsl, whatever you're trying to connect to . And since you dont need the other PC to get onto the net, the wireless connection doesnt have to be used . Unless the other PC has access to the net, and has a wireless PCI card / USB adapter in it . And you're trying to get onto the Internet, with the laptop, thru this other computer . This wireless network connection status : status : limited or no connectivity speed : 54mbps signal strength : full strength Has nothing to do with a wireless internet connection, its for a home network, (wireless network) . Unless you have another PC that has access to the net, and the other PC has a wireless adapter in it . So, the laptop can connect through it . The status of the wireless network connection wont change to connected, unless it detects / picks up another wireless connection from somewhere . |

| 436848 | 2006-03-09 22:06:00 | The laptop will have to have internet access to get onto the net . If you do have access to the internet, you'll have to create the dialup icon / whatever on the laptop . And then connect to the internet . Or if you have another PC with net access, you'll need either a wireless adapter on this other PC, or an ethernet connection, you'll have to conect the ethernet to the laptop, then setup the laptop, so u can get internet access thru it . (this other PC, if u have another computer there, besides the laptop) . BUT, if neither PC have internet access, well obviously you'll have to join an ISP to get onto the net . |
